The need for an elegant and low cost solution to aid farmers in identifying cows in estrus has motivated us to develop BOViFLAG™.
Located in the heart of the dairy breeding region of South Africa, a small team of professionals collaborated with dairy farmers to develop a robust product that withstand the rigors of farm life, yet provide an accurate aid for estrus detection.
In line with modern Open Innovation developments, our team drew on the expertise of people and supplies of companies from across the globe. First and foremost, we wanted to offer a product that works and limits frustration to farmers. We scanned online blogs, studied our highly respected competition, and the competitive patent landscape to determine what frustrations need to be solved. This led us to start right from scratch by finding an adhesive that REALLY sticks. With two vets in the team, we were reminded to always consider the health aspects of cows at every step. Multiple prototypes were tested in laboratory and field conditions, adjustments made, and tested again. At the end we have faith that our product will meet or exceed the expectations of farmers.
